The best Frenchman in Paris-Roubaix was not one of the country's biggest stars. Insteasd it was 21-year-old Cofidis rider Florian Senechal who ended the race in 17th. It was only his second participation in the race but he felt comfortable on the cobbles.
"In Arenberg, I was a little late," he told L'Equpe.. "During the race, I felt better and better. I got back to the best right at the beginning of the Carrefour de l'Arbre. I gave everything to stay with them." The Cofidis rider confessed to have wanted to try his luck with the Stybar group, "but I was exhausted. I am happy, for myself, for my team and my staff."
"I had some luck. My work paid off in the race I was targeting as I have been thinking about Paris-Roubaix every day. I have trouble finding the right words. Now I will continue my work. I have the ability to win in a few years. Here I am at home, I suffered, but it was only joy."
He knows where he needs to improve. "I lost some powe by being in a bad position in some pave sectors," he said before talking about his lack of self-confidence.
