Zico Waeytens took another top-10 with a 7th at the final stage in the Tour of California, as Carter Jones made in to a 16th in the overall.
With the fifth bunch sprint of the week, Mark Cavendish (Ettix – Quick Step) took his fourth stage victory in this year’s Tour of California. Following three top-10 places earlier in the week, talented Zico Waeytens sprinted to a 7th place at the closing stage.
With only 3 seconds between them, Peter Sagan (Tinkoff – Saxo) took the overall win over winner of yesterday’s queen stage, Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx – Quick Step). Team Giant-Alpecin’s climber Carter Jones made it to a steady 16th in the General Classification.
“The final stage was again a sprint opportunity for us with Zico. The finish was slightly down hill so an extremely fast sprint was expected. A small hesitation in the sprint preparation boxed in Zico and he finished at 7th.“, said coach Aike Visbeek.
