At the Six-Days in Ghent, Moreno De Pauw has beaten the track record set by Switzerland's Tristan Marguet. "It hasn't sunk in yet," a delighted De Pauw tells Sporza.
The track record of 8.56 was set in 2012 by Swiss Tristan Marguet who paced by his compatriot Franco Marvulli.
In recent days, Moreno De Pauw has been trying to beat that record. OnFriday all the pieces suddenly came together. Morgan Kneisky launched De Pauw who stopped the clock in 8.45 on the 166 meters track.
"I had hoped to be able to break it, but you dream of doing so by maybe a hundredth or two hundredths of asecond . Now I break it by nine hundredths of a second (11 hundredths of a seocnd, ed.) It is really a dream come true.
"I said yesterday that it would depend on the details. Today everything came together. On the very day that my best mate Kristof (the late Kristof Goddaert, red) would have celebrated his birthday. Last year I equaled the record on that day, today I break it . That means something. He's here."
