After a year with Stölting Service Group, Fabian Wegmann has decided to end his career.
The 36-year-old German has decided that it is time to turn the page after yeas spent at teams like Gerolsteiner, Milram, Leopard Trek and Garmin.
"Retirement gives me a mixture of sadness and enthusiasm but I have a lot of expectations now with new objectives and new ambitions,” he said in a statement.
Winner of two editions of the Eschborn-Frankfurt City Loop and the GP Miguel Indurain, the German champion from 2012 had a very good year in 2006 where he won a stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné and finished on the podium at the Tour of Lombardy. In the second part of his career, he mainly turned into good teammate.
Wegmann hopes to use his experience in the future. He is currently in talks regarding several sports projects.
"I had the chance to do some of the biggest races in the world and I gained a lot of experience in the sport. I am now prepared to give something back and to put my knowledge on the table for new challenges. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my friends, my family and my teammates, sponsors and media who accompanied me during my career.”
