Alexis Vuillermoz is out of La Fleche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege after his crash at Amstel Gold Race.
Vuillermoz suffers from cranial trauma and dermabrasion on the face, right side of the body and left hand.
"I have no memory of my crash," he said. "This morning,I am not able to ride a bike and to train. Obviously, I am disappointed but it’s the wisest decision even if La Fleche Wallonne was my goal this season. I need to rest and then prepare the second part of the season. I will participate in a team mountain training camp in Sierra Nevada (May 11th-25th)."
Sports director Julien Jurdie added:
"In consultation with AG2R LA MONDIALE Pro Cycling Team medical staff, we made the wisest decision. Alexis was unable to participate in hard races like the Ardennes Classics. We are sad for Alexis but we must keep on fighting. Alexis is mentally strong and he must overcome this disappointment.
"Pierre Latour will replace him in La Fleche Wallonne and discover these races after a consistent Vuelta al Pais Vasco (14th). He will join a strong team united around Jan Bakelants who proved his perfect condition in Amstel Gold Race (13th)."
