Victim of a fall during training, Alexis Vuillermoz suffered a fractured fourth metacarpal. It will be decided on Tuesday if surgery is needed or not by agreement with the team’s doctor. Then, we will know more about how long he will be unavailable.
Vuillermoz has had a breakthrough year in 2014 so far, with results such as a win in the mountains classification of the Route du Sud, 11th overall in the Giro d’Italia while working for Domenico Pozzovivo and tenth in the Italian Grand Tour’s eleventh stage, won by Michael Rogers.
He joined AG2R this season from Sojasun. He is the second AG2R rider to be injured recently while training, after Domenico Pozzovivo sustained a fractured right tibia and fibia after he hit a cat and fell into a guard rail while descending the Stelvio Pass.
