Alexis Vuillermoz has emerged this afternoon on the second stage of Tour du Gevaudan. He took his first professional win after a very strong dominance by the French AG2R La Mondiale. The yellow jersey is now placed on Spaniard Amets Txurruka.
This success is a great reward after a few weeks ago Vuillermoz suffered from a fractured fourth metacarpal after a fall during training season. He then finished 5th in the Tour du Dubs after his return to racing.
"The stage was difficult with the addition of a lot of wind on the first part of the race. My teammates protected me well and I was well placed. I could save myself throughout the day, especially as we did not have to ride in the lead thanks to the presence of William (Bonnafond) in the break of day," he told the AG2R website.
"In the end, we were still three riders of AG2R La Mondiale in a group of eleven at the front with Mikael (Cherel) and Hubert (Dupont). I was able to manage my stress through their work and introduce myself to sprint in the best conditions. This is my first win in the professional ranks and is always beautiful! This is what was missing in my season for it to be truly successful is made thing," he finished.
