Andorra will play a key role in the 2015 Vuelta a Espana since the country will host the queen stage, stage 11, on Tuesday, September 2. The stage will start in Parc Central and finish in Cortals d'Encamp, including no less than 5230 metres of altitude in just 138km.

The riders will go up six major climbs: Collada de Beixalís (1795 metres), Coll d'Ordino (1938), La Peguera (1821), Collada de la Gallina (1910), La Comella (1347) and the final climb of Cortals d'Encamp (2083). The final ascent is 15.8 kilometres long at an average gradient of 6.8%. The difficulty comes from km 8 to km 15 which have average gradient of 9.4%, 9.3%, 9.6%, 8.7%, 7.4%, 8.3% and 7.1% respectively.

The Government of Andorra has announced the full itinerary of the stage which has partly been decided by local resident Joaquim Rodriguez.

The Vuelta peloton will stay in Andorra for four days. They will arrive from Castellón on Monday, August 31; Tuesday is a rest day; Wednesday will be the big day of stage 11 and on Thursday they will travel from the principality to Catalonia.

The nine expected summit finishes in the 2015 Vuelta are: Caminito del Rey (stage 2), Vejer de la Frontera (4), Cazorla (6), Capileira (7), Cumbre del Sol (9), Cortals d'Encamp (11) , Fuente del Chivo (14), Sotres (15) and Ermita del Alba (16). There will be two time trials: In puerto Banus on the opening day and in Burgos on stage 17.

The official presentation of the Vuelta will be held on Saturday, January 10 in Torremolinos.
