The riders that will start their season at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana in February have to prepare themselves for a brutal climb. According, to Las Provincia, the queen stage will offer a challenging course with six climb.
After the climbs of Arenillas (2nd cat.), Zucaina (2nd cat.), Castillo de Villamalefa, Puertomingalvo (1st cat.) and Collado del Vidre (3rd cat.), the peloton will end the stage by tackling the terrible wall of Alto Mas de la Costa. It made it debut at the last Vuelta a Espana, has a very poor surface and offers passages between 15% and 22%. The climb is not very long (less than 4 km) but very hard and allowed Mathias Frank to win from a breakaway in the 17th stage of the Vuelta.
Wout Poels won the 2016 edition of the race which made its return to the calendar after a long absence.
