The organizers of the Volta a Catalunya have revealed another host city of the 2017 edition of the race.
On March 23, the day after the mountaintop finish in La Molina, the riders will travel about twenty kilometers to the north and will cross the French border to reach the town of Llívia which will host the start of the fourth stage. The Spanish city is in French territory but inside an enclave which has belonged to Spain since 1866. The riders will only make a very short passage of a few kilometers in France before returning to Spain and heading towards the finish of the fourth stage which is not yet known.
It will be the eighth appearance of Llívia on the course of the Volta a Catalunya and it has mainly been used as a start city. It was the site of a stage finish in 2003 when Jesús Manzano won. He succeeded his compatriots Juan Fernandez and Jose Manuel Maestra, winners in 1980 and 2002 respectively.
We now know almost the entire course but two stage finishes still haven’t been revealed. There will be a team time trial on stage 2 and uphill finishes on stages 3 and 5
