Since 2014, the municipality of Mataró has always hosted a start of a stage of the Volta a Catalunya. In 2017, this will again be the case for the fourth consecutive year.
However, unlike the previous edition, the stage in question, the third, will not favor the sprinters. Nacer Bouhanni won last March in Olot, but next year the riders will head towards La Molina where the climbers will shine in a mountaintop finish. Mataró has hot hosted a stage finish at the race since 1987 and the success of Johan van der Velde.
It is known that the 2017 edition of the race will have two mountaintop finishes and a team time trial. Nairo Quintana won the race in 2016.
