Thomas Voeckler of Team Europcar has successfully returned to competition after the crash he suffered on the eve of Santos Tour Down Under in mid-January, competing in the Tour Mediteraneen and Volta ao Algarve. In the interview for L'Alsace the French rider, who concluded the Portuguese race in 139th position, reflected on his disposition following an accident and how it would affect his early season targets.
“I avoided the next crash, so this way it went well, even though I’m out of physical form. However, it’s not surprising after what happened to me. […] I am four and a half weeks after the surgery, while a full recovery takes from five to six weeks.”
Asked about changes to his racing program, Voeckler confirmed he will participate in the races as it was originally planed.
“I stick to the original program, but with different ambitions, especially regarding to the Paris-Nice. The objective is to be in team’s roster and support my team-mates. But I do not plan anything, I do not expect to be in the top shape before the Vuelta a Catalunya,” Voeckler concluded.
