In 2015, Elia Viviani will be riding for Sky. However, his goals remain the same: a medal at the Track Worlds and a stage win in the Giro d'Italia.

A big change in Elia Viviani's career is about to happen. After five seasons at Liquigas/Cannondale, Elia Viviani will wear the Sky jersey from next year. It was an obvious choice for the Italian since his Italian-American team is about to merge with Garmin-Sharp and it gives him the chance to be part of one of the bst team in the world. In addition to having world-class GC riders for the grand tours, the British team will now also try to focus o the sprints and will remain committed to the track.

Despite moving to a British team, Viviani still feels at home.

"A big part of the team is Italian," he told Federciclismo in an interview. "Sky Italia is very involved. Pinarello is a very important sponsor and other sponsors are Italian too. Having two Italian like me and Puccio was very important.

The goals for next season remain the same. The first part of the season will focus on the Track World Championships, the first step towards the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

"Here I will have the assistance of a group of people who have a detailed knowledge about the track and that will help me in so many aspects. Just look at the bike and the aerodynamics. I can take advantage of that in the build-up to the Olympics."

His preparation for the world championships will start at the first round of the World Cup in Mexico in the first week of November and then he may participate in the third round in Cali, Colombia, but only "Italy is poorly placed in the world rankings."

After the track season, he will focus on the Giro d'Italia, again setting his sights on a first victory in the grand tour. Regarding the prospect of Chris Froome lining up at the Italian race and limiting his freedom, Viviani clarifies:

"Sky Italia is interested in the Giro. The schedules have not been made yet , and Sky always keep me informed. I know that there is only one mini time trial in the 2015 Tour but in 2012,Froome won the race on the climbs [in fact he finished second behind his teammate Bradley Wiggins, ed.]."

In his short career, Viviani has already done all grand tours and he is able to elaborate on the differences.

"In the Tour, there are so many sprint finishes. In the Giro, it is more difficult to get a sprint and the sprinter has to survive some climbs. The Vuelta is much easier and less stressful but there you also have to climb well because the only real stage for sprinters is in Madrid. For a sprinter, the Tour is the best race but for an Italian, the Giro is the Giro."

In 2014, Viviani won six races, just like he did in 2013.

"It was not bad because I took six victories, including the very important ones in Turkey where I beat Cavendish, and in Colorado. But of course I didn't achieve my goals of a World Championships medal in the points race and a Giro stage win. Let's say that it was no bad season but that it could have been better. For two years, I have been chasing a grand tour stage win."

In his new team, Viviani will again chase the dream of winning a medal on the track and a stage in the Giro.
