After the cyclo-cross race in Bredene, Sven Nys criticisized Gianni Vermeersch heavily, claiming that the young Belgian tried to ride him off the road. Vermeersch used his Twitter account to apologize.
"Due to my youthful indiscretion, I rode a bit too aggressively in the final lap today. My sincere apologies to Sven.
"It was not the intention to make him crash. My respect for the person and the rider Nys was and remains immense."
Earlier Nys had already accepted the apology. "I hope you learn something from this. Let the race in Baal be a party. End of discussion," he tweeted.
