Davide Vigano blasted to the line as first person in Portugal to take an impressive victory for Team Idea 2010 ASD. Defending champion and race leader Spaniard Gustavo Cesar Veloso was just on the wheel of Vigano railing him in a bit in the end.
The Italian was to decisive though and took the stage ahead of Veloso, who came in second. This means he is still in the lead of the race with 9 seconds to team-mate Delio Fernandez and 12 seconds to Portuguese Jose Goncalves of Caja Rural.
Gustavo Veloso explained the meaning of the powerful sprint in the end of the stage as following:
"The end of the stage in Fafe is always a bit complicated, we knew it was very close," said Veloso to Esciclismo, explaining that he made an effort at the end to try to catch a second, because: "You never know if it will be necessary or not,”
