Movistar Team is to collaborate with Velon for the Giro d’Italia and will cooperate with the organisation for on-bike footage at the race. The team will put their Camileo X-Sports cameras from official provider Toshiba at the disposal of both parties.
The news follows last week’s announcement by both Velon and RCS Sport to put cameras in the peloton of the Giro d'Italia. All 11 of Velon’s teams will deliver on-bike footage from eight stages of the race for use in the evening TV highlights packages. The teams and Velon will also host footage on their websites and digital media channels.
Velon has delivered video from Stages 1, 2 and 4. The collaboration with Movistar Team began immediately and the team used their Toshiba Camileo X-Sports cameras from Stage 9 (Benevento to San Giorgio Del Sannio). The collaboration will also produce films from Stages 15, 16, 17 and 20.
Velon CEO, Graham Bartlett, said: “We’re delighted to have the Movistar Team with us on this project. The organisation is backed by a great media company and bringing them on board is win-win for all involved: Velon, Movistar Team, the fans and, with even more footage, the Giro too, of course.”
Giro d'Italia Director, Mauro Vegni, said: "We are delighted that a team of such importance is joining this project, which reinforces the value of the Giro d'Italia around the world. This unique footage, from the very heart of the race, will make cycling even more spectacular for fans."
Movistar Team Marketing and Communication Officer, Juan Pablo Molinero, stated: “Movistar Team has always worked closely with the organisations that work hard to improve and develop the future of cycling. Velon is doing a great job in delivering amazing on-board camera images to the fans and Movistar Team, supported by its official cameras supplier Toshiba, wants to support it in this purpose.”
Movistar Team had collaborated with the 11 Velon teams previously and was part of its 2014 precursor, the Avignon project.
