Things are not getting better for Klaas Vantornout. The Belgian has had to withdraw from today's cyclocross race in Leuven and is again undergoing treatment with antibiotics. He has no longer any ambitions for the Belgian Championships next week. Earlier he already had to skip the races in Sint-Niklaas, Essen, Namur, Heusden-Zolder and Loenhout. He was only at the start in Baal on New Year's Day.
Since the start of the Christmas season, Klaas Vantornout (Sunweb Napoleon Games) has been suffering from health problems.
"It simply continues. I have never been sick for so long. The illness in my body simply won't die. Every night I wake up with a sore throat, I have a lot of mucus and my blood values are disastrous," Vantornout told Sporza.
Before New Year, Vantornout skipped several races but he was at the start in Baal on January 1. "But actually I felt more like a cyclotourist there. Then I started a new course of antibiotics for three days and hopefully it will do its work."
Vantonout is already thinking about next week's Belgian Nationals in Erpe-Mere. "Given the circumstances, the Belgian Championships come too early for me to obtain a good result.
"There is nothing to do against Wout van Aert. If I can have a good feeling in Erpe-Mere, I will be very satisfied."
