Andreas Vangstad (Sparebanken Sør) crested a masjor surprise when he escaped in the finale to win the final stage of the Tour of Norway.
“It feels a bit surreal, but also very fun to have shown that I can assert myself in the lead in such a strong field,” said Andreas Vangstad to after the victory.”I have not though a lot about what it means for my future but of course it makes it more obvious to aim at a professional career.
Vangstand already shone in last Friday's queen stage.
“I did some good work on that stage. I was a little disappointed that I didn't take the opportunity to move a bit more in the standings. Today I was determined to be in the mix. I was also very keen on paying my teammates back as they have lined up as they have worked hard for me. This victory means a lot to me but also to the team.
“The boys have been one hundred percent loyal to the plans that had been made," sports director Atle Kvålsvoll said. "They have ridden for Andreas and his possibilities. That we succeeded and in addition to Andreas's impressive stage victory and fifth place also took the mountains jersey with Vegard Robinson Bugge means a lot to us. The Norwegian stage races are important because they have huge media interest, especially from TV media which in turn enables the sponsors to get return for their commitment to our team.
“And the most important sporting achievement is that we show that we have the capacity to match the pros. Andreas impressed everyone. What he did today simply can not be done better."
