The GC riders will have marked stage 14 long before today. An individual time trial of 59.4 kilometres will definitely influence the general classification. With start in Treviso and finish in Valdobbiadene, the first part of the course is rather flat, but the second part is wavy. The three intermediate time checks will give an indication of the form of the day. Also for Lotto Soudal riders Maxime Monfort and Jurgen Van den Broeck the time trial is an important goal.
Because of the crash in yesterday’s finale, Van den Broeck gained some places; he’s eleventh at the moment: “I’m glad I reached the finish line safely yesterday. Like all GC riders who started the Giro, I’m curious to see what the time trial will bring. I don’t think it’s a disadvantage that the course isn’t entirely flat. If the individual time trial on the last day of the Tour de Romandie can be an indication, I can start with confidence, but this time trial is of course three times longer. The real battle for GC starts today; nobody can hide anymore," he said.
