For the fourth time in a row and for the fifth time in his career, Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet has been named as the Flandrien of the Year, signalling that he was best Belgian rider of the season. He beat Thomas De Gendt and Timothy Dupont in the fight for the honour.
Every year Het Nieuwsblad awards the trophy for best Belgian rider but they also have a prize for the foreigners. Peter Sagan was named as International Flandrien while Fabian Cancellara received a Lifetime Honour. The Flandrienne of the Year award went to Jolien D'Hoore, Wout van Aert was the Flandrien of the field, while Bjorg Lambrecht (U23), Jasper Philipsen (juniors) and Thibaut Ponsaerts (novices) also won prizes.
Until 2008, a public vote decided the winner of the prize but now the riders make the decision in an internal vote.
