After breaking his collarbone in the Tour of Flanders, Greg Van Avermaet of BMC is hoping to return to racing at the Tour of California next month.
“The feeling on the bike is already quite good. I just have some pain in my wrist. Every time I ride over a [drain], I feel a twinge. This still worries me,” Van Avermaet told Sporza.
He had hoped to defend his Tour of Belgium title, but his BMC team have not entered the race. For Van Avermaet, his season is now all about the Tour de France.
“I think BMC is concerned that I would ride around in the Tour of Belgium too motivated. The main goal now is the Tour [de France], where I want to be as fresh as possible at the start,” he said.
