Greg Van Avermaet has sets his sights on the second stage of the Tour de France, with the finish being one for puncheurs. "I want to win and take yellow," said the Belgian.
After this year's stage win, Greg Van Avermaet was with the big names at yesterday's presentation. "It is nice to sit in the front row. That's something special," he told Sporza.
In 2016 he has eyed an early chance to repeat his feat, even with an extra bonus. "The second stage should suit me. There may be wind and on paper the finish is for me, even if I have to look at it in more detail.
"I want to get through the first stage and then hopefully win the second. This could give me the yellow jersey.
"I do not know how all finishes are and hope that there is another flat stage with a slightly uphill finish. In addition, the stage to Bern is very important for our team with a Swiss sponsor. I have to help the team winning that one."
Is itcertain that Van Avermaet will do the Tour? "Not 100% sure, but I definitely want to go and the team will have to select me me. But first the classics are coming."
