The year 2020 could be a Dutch cycling year. Groningen and Drenthe both bid for the Road Worlds and now Utrecht also thinks about a start of the Vuelta a España to reach the cathedral city, according to a report in RTV Utrecht . The intended target was 2019.
Utrecht would prefer the 2019 edition but the organizers of the Vuelta seem to prefer to the Spanish Levante.
"Our preference is 2019 because there is no European Football Championships, Football World Cup or Olympics. Thus we will get the maximum exposure. But we also think seriously about 2020," says Cor Jansen, chairman of the Business Peloton Utrecht. The province of Noord-Brabant has an interest in the of 2019 or 2020 Vuelta. Earlier Christian Prudhomme indicated that he is in favor of a Vuelta start in Utrecht. It would become the first city in the world to host all three Grand Tours.
