CyclingTips has discovered that some of the riders racing at Team Colombia, who are due to fold at the end of the year, have not been paid wages, with some riders not receiving a wage in four months.
“When it comes to governmental funds, delays in delivery are part of the business,” he said. “I can tell you that the team is waiting for a payment from Coldeportes, that is reported and expected to be coming in short time. After the payment is sealed, the team will be able to regularly settle everything until the end of the year,” a team spokesperson told CyclingTips.
Coldeportes is the Colombian Department of Sport, and they pay a huge part of the team’s budget each year. It is unknown how much they owe.
Should they not make their payments, the UCI may pay the wages from the money that teams lodge as part of their license application each year.
