One week ago, Steven Tronet took the biggest win of his career at the Route du Sud. The Auber 93 rider won again and took a sensational victory at the French road race championships on Sunday. Thanks to Anthony Roux (FDJ), who had brought down favourite Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) with a big swerve and he was relegated, Tony Gallopin (Lotto Soudal) was promoted to second. Sylvain Chavanel (IAM Cycling) finished third.
"For the last month I’ve been telling myself it’s possible. I did everything to win, I really believed in it. This is my reward, I’ve been struggling for nine years", the 28-year-old rider said, a professional on second-tier Continental teams since 2007.
"Since I won stage 1 of the Route du Sud [in a very difficult finale in Auch], I believed I was able to become the French champion", Tronet explained. "My friends, my family, my teams convinced me that I could win this race."
