In 2016, the Giro del Trentino Melinda (cat. 2HC, to be held on April 19-22, 2016) is going to celebrate its 40th edition, that will stick to the same well-known format of the previous years: one team time trial stage, one medium mountain day and two stages in the high mountains, where the general classification should be played in a thrilling and spectacular fashion, just as it was the case in recent seasons, when fans and riders alike had only words of praise for the four-day event.

Won in the past by some of cycling’s biggest names – Francesco Moser, Giuseppe Saronni, Gianni Bugno, Vincenzo Nibali and Cadel Evans – the Giro del Trentino Melinda established itself over the years as an important landmark of the UCI calendar, as well as the best preparation for the Giro d’Italia as it takes place just a couple of weeks before the season’s maiden Grand Tour.

The 40th Giro del Trentino Melinda will be dedicated to the memory of Nerino Ioppi – who passed away two months ago. Throughout the decades, since the inception of the event, Nerino Ioppi had a major role in the development of the Giro del Trentino Melinda, putting every ounce of his love and passion into turning this competition into a renowned one in the cycling world.

Following the lead of Nerino Ioppi, the GS Alto Garda is keen to continue working hard in order to keep and expand his legacy, while also making the race a top option for the cyclists who want to add an important victory to their palmares or to get into shape for the Giro d’Italia. So, after having such riders as Richie Porte, Vincenzo Nibali, Cadel Evans, Bradley Wiggins and Fabio Aru in the previous editions, the organizers are hoping to attract other big names between 19 and 22 April 2016, for the 40th running of the race.
