Previously it was reported that TDU stage 1 was in danger due to fire threat and dangerous winds. Now race organizers confirm that those threat are all gone, and the stage will go ahead as planned tomorrow, according to TDU official press release.
"There's a fire in the region, but not directly around the race route. It's still being monitored, but at this stage we're right to go," says Turtur, the race director. "Obviously this advice might change subject to the conditions and we'll continue to be guided by the advice we receive from the Country Fire Service and South Australian Police."
Another thing that the organizers concern, is that the situation of the people affected by the bush fire, who need help including monetary ones. The TDU organizers consider the race itself as a proper way for that, "Our thoughts are with the people affected by the fires but we urge cycling fans to help them through this by supporting the local economies of the region," said Mr Turtur. "Spending money in the shops and restaurants will help in the recovery for the area."
The Tour Down Under stage 1 provides a hilly course, from Nuriootpa to Angaston, and will be held tomorrow. There's Mengler's Hill(2.7km, 8.1%) 11.7km from the finish in the stage, which will likely be the deciding factor.
