In its 97th edition, the UCI 1.1 Coppa Bernocchi is a race known for sprinters. Beginning and ending in Legnano, the route included a seven-lap circuit with one challenging climb. Following a fast start, a second breakaway of six riders stuck through to the finish and Vincenzo Nibali of Astana sprinted to a first place finish. Team Novo Nordisk’s David Lozano (ESP) finished 23rd.
“I was able to stay in the front of the peloton for most of the race, but the pace of the second breakaway was almost the same as a good, organized peloton and we weren’t able to catch them,” said Lozano. “I rode as hard as I could to the finish and ended with the pack. It was a challenging day following a long week at Tour of Britain so I’m looking forward to a short break before we race again in Italy next month.”
Vincenzo Nibali (Team Astana) took first ahead of Mauro Finetto (Southeast) and Matteo Trentin (Italy).
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, returns to racing on October 1 at Milano Torino in Italy.
