Yesterday, Tom Boonen crashed during the Belgian race E3 Harelbeke. Today, the Omega Pharma - Quickstep team has announced that Tom Boonen will start at the Gent-Wevelgem tomorrow.
The crash caused a strong contusion on the right thumb of Boonen, which caused him pain on the articulation. The thumb is swollen and he has also stretched a ligament.
The medical staff of Omega Pharma - Quickstep has taped his thumb this morning and Tom Boonen was able to participate in a ride with the rest of the team today, even with some soreness. If necessary, Boonen will go through further medical examinations after Gent-Wevelgem.
