Oleg Tinkov has reiterated his intention to turn Team Tinkoff-Saxo into the best team in the world, claiming that he expects to reach the goal already in 2015. To turn his dream into reality, he plans to sign several new riders and will make several announcements in 2014.

When Oleg Tinkov announced that he has bought Team Tinkoff-Saxo from Bjarne Riis, the Russian and the new manager Riis both made it clear that the intention is to turn the team into the best in the world. Due to the financial uncertainty in the second half of the season, the team was unable to make any major signings for the coming season but Tinkov now reveals that things will be different in 2014.

With Alberto Contador on the roster, the team was expected to play a dominant role in the 2013 season and the team signed several reinforcements to sufficiently support their captain. However, the team was crushed by Team Sky in the world's biggest race and in most of the year's stage races, with Contador only finishing 4th in the major target of the season.

The team had occasional success in other races, with Roman Kreuziger winning the Amstel Gold Race and finishing on the Tour de Suisse podium, Nicolas Roche winning a stage and finishing 5th in the Vuelta a Espana, Rafal Majka coming in 7th at the Giro d'Italia and Contador finishing on the podium in the Tirreno-Adriatico. However, no one denied that the team failed to live up to expectations.

With Tinkov originally announcing his intention to end his sponsorship of the team, Riis had a very uncertain second half of the season and was unable to sign any major new riders. As Tinkov only bought the team very late in the season, most team had already finalized their rosters when the Russian took over and his spokesman Stefano Feltrin recently told Velonation that no more signings were planned for the coming season.

To reach his goals, Tinkov will, however, be very active on the transfer market in 2014. In a post on his Facebook page, the Russian reiterates his lofty ambitions and reveals how he will turn them into reality.

"Next week, at Hotel Anfi in Gran Canaria, new team Tinkoff-Saxo will start their first team's training," he wrote. "I am looking forward to be there and bike with the boys, our boys are the best in the World, and we will be strong at the Tour de France this year. We'll do our best to support Alberto Contador.

"So, from now, we start to build the best team in the world, I believe we will accomplish this status already in 2015," he added. "There are lots of signings announcments to come during 2014. Please SUPPORT US!"

Team Tinkoff-Saxo will start their season at the Tour Down Under which kicks off on January 21, with the People's Choice Classic preceding the event two days earlier.
