Tinkoff-Saxo’s Evgeny Petrov participated in the breakaway of today’s stage 7 of Tour of Austria, where the speed soared to 48km/h for most of the day. Team sports director Bruno Cenghialta notes that the squad will look for possibilities on Sunday’s final day of racing.
Evgeny Petrov finished 14th on stage 7 after taking part in the big breakaway of the day. Bruno Cenghialta explains that Petrov tried to break free several times within the final kilometers.
“It was a short but very fast stage today, for several hours we maintained an average race speed of 48km/h. After the first 2 kilometers a big group of 21 riders attacked and broke clear from the peloton. We had Evgeny Petrov in the group and in the finale we saw a lot of attacks. Evgeny followed and attacked several times on his own, but they would not let him go. In the end, the group let the stage winner Pöstlberger from the Tirol Team go and he won the stage”, says Bruno Cenghialta.
Tour of Austria will be concluded Sunday with an undulating stage of 184.3km. Here, Tinkoff-Saxo will look for an opportunity to shake things up, according to Bruno Cenghialta.
“Tomorrow we have the final stage and I hope that we will have two to four guys in a big breakaway, which I think will escape. We have to enter the breakaway and try to make it to the line in a small group, as we don’t have any sprinters on the team. I hope we can do a good result to finish off this race on a positive note”, concludes Cenghialta.
