Another day with bad weather has put the first big mountain stage of this year's Volta a Catalunya under threat. The race organizers, however, have now confirmed that the stage will go ahead as planned.
For weeks the excitement to the big showdown in the Volta a Catalunya between Chris Froome, Alberto Contador, Joaquim Rodriguez, and Nairo Quintana have been building but cycling fans all over the world were at risk of getting disappointed. The bad weather that plagued the riders in yesterday's second stage is expected to continue for the next few days and with the riders set to head into the mountains, Wednesday's and Thursday's big stages were at risk of getting modified.
At the conclusion of yesterday's second stage, however, the race organizers confirmed that they plan for the third stage to proceed as plannd without any changes.
"I just spoke with the meteorological services (at 18.00 CET) and we plan for eveything to stay as intended," president Ruben Reis told Biciciclismo. "There will be rain but no snow. The stage will take place without any change."
The organizers also confirmed that they have planned an alternative route in case of unexpected events.
The stage will bring the riders up the 1916m Alt de Creueta before finishing in La Molina, 1725m above sea level.
