Niki Terpstra (Omega Pharma – Quick Step) will not be part of next Sunday’s Amstel Gold Race. The newly crowned winner of Paris-Roubaix finishes his spring immediately to pick up the thread at the Tour of California again after a rest period
The Dutchman was initially put on the provisional entry list but has now elected to opt out of the race.
"Last week I decided not to start. The Amstel Gold Race is about a completely different route than the Classics of the past few weeks. There is also another fresh pack at the start. I now take some rest first," Terpstra said at the press conference after the Paris-Roubaix, Cycling Weekly reported.
The Tour of California will be held between 11 and 18 May. Terpstra is likely to travel to the United States for testing in the wind tunnel for bike sponsor Specialized.
