Theo Bos recently returned to the track as part of the Dutch team for the team pursuit at the European Championships. The Belkin sprinter is actively trying to persuade other riders to join the team for the 2016 Olympics and has approached Paris-Roubaix champion Niki Terpstra
"For now, it was just a one-off," Theo Bos recently said after his return to track racing at the European Championships. " Whether I think of Rio? I do rule it out," he said when asked about his Olympic ambitions. But according to Niki Terpstra, the sprinter is very serious about his plans.
"Theo is trying to convince good riders that can also ride on the track as he wants to make a good team for the team pursuit in Rio," Terpstra told NOS. The Paris-Roubaix champions didn't rule anything out when he was approached by Bos.
"It's an option but I am not really thinking seriously about it yet. It is still far away."
The main problem for Terpstra is that it is difficult to combine a track campaign with his road schedule.
"I am a professional cycling and that is my priority. If I fo to the Olympics, I cannot do my job but I want to keep the option open."
It is no coincidence that Bos has approached Terpstra. While almost all of his fellow riders are already on vacation, the Paris-Roubaix champion is riding the Six-Days of Amsterdam as a hobby.
"This is one of my hobbies. I love to play, I love bikes and I love high speed. It is a combination of this. And the great thing is that the audience is so close that you get an immediate response if you break away or do a sprint. It's a great spectacle."
