Georg Preidler (Giant-Alpecin) was unable to build on the successes of recent years in 2015. This was more due to team duties than a lack of form.
"This year I have put the team over my own ambitions. Hence, my results are not great," Preidler told radsport-news.com. But the Austrians had no problems with his role: to ride for his team-mates and not for himself: "I am also very happy when we win as a team."
Nevertheless, it was enough to take one win, namely at the national championships where Preider was Austrian champion in the time trial. In addition to that victory, the first Tour participation, fifth place in the World Team Time Trial Championships and the classics topped his highlight list. "I was especially always among the best in the Ardennes classics," said the 25-year-old who did all three races of the series and achieved his best result with a 39th place at the Amstel Gold Race.
Preidler had expectd more in his debut at the Tour de France, where an illness prevented him from showing his talents. "I had to take antibiotic in the last week," he said. The end of the season at World Championships in Richmond did not go as hopd either: After a crash, he abandoned with a broken tailbone.
For the upcoming season, he mainly hopes to aovoid crashes and injuries. "I also want to take a Grand Tour again," said Preidler.
