Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana, the third round of the Challenge Mallorca, got off to a dramatic start. On the opening descent off the Coll d'en Claret, several riders hit the deck, including Cesare Benedetti, Loic Chetout, Fabio Silvestre, Egoitz Garcia, Sebastian Langeveld, Hugh Carthy and Rory Sutherland.
The worst news on day three of the 2015 Mallorca Challenge for Movistar Team came early in the race as Rory Sutherland crashed on the descent of the Coll d'En Claret (Cat-3), after just 17km. The Aussie rider, only in his second day in Blue colours, had to be moved by ambulance to the Clínica Rotger in Palma de Mallorca, with acute pain in his left shoulder.
X-rays on Sutherland confirmed a distal left collarbone fracture, which will force Sutherland to travel back to his home in Girona tomorrow, in order to undergo more profound checks to decide on the need for surgery.
