Spanish rider Luis León Sánchez is scheduled to make a return to competitive racing with his Blanco team at the Tour of Belgium later this month in spite continuing uncertainties regarding suspected links to the Operación Puerto doping scandal.
According to reports in Dutch media, the UCI WorldTour team confirmed that Sánchez will be part of its roster for the Belgian stage race, posting the news on its Twitter account Wednesday.
“News update: Luis León Sánchez will race the Baloise Belgium Tour,” the team wrote.
The 29-year-old Sánchez hasn’t raced since all season after assertions about links to Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes reappeared during the Puerto trial earlier this season.
Sánchez has continually denied ever collaborating with Fuentes, who was recently found guilty of endangering public health as part of the Puerto scandal dating back to 2006.
