Having been beaten in the British time trial championships, Team Sky took their second win in the national championships weekend late yesterday when Kanstantsin Siutsou took home his second win in the Belarusian time trial championships. Young talent Andrei Krasilnikau finished 2nd while former Movistar and QuickStep rider Branislau Samoilau completed the podium.
There was no win for Team Sky on Thursday in the British time trial championships as former team rider Alex Dowsett held off Ben Swift in the battle for the national crown in the team's home country. Yesterday the powerful squad finally took its second national championship title this year when Kanstantsin Siutsou won the time trial in Belarus, 24 hours after Edvald Boasson Hagen had taken the first one.
With his performance, the talented Belarusian proved that he is ready to start the Tour de France in support of Chris Froome. He raced the Giro d'Italia in support of Rigoberto Uran and Bradley Wiggins and recently returned to competition at the Route du Sud where he finished an encouraging 8th. He hopes to contribute more to team success than he did last year where a crash in stage 3 left him with a broken leg and a premature end to his season.
The win is his second at the event, adding to the victory he took in 2011. He has finished on the podium another two times, as a 19-year old in 2002 and one year later.
2nd place went to the talented Andrei Krasilnikau who last year rode for the Garmin feeder team, the Chipotle squad, which folded prior to this season. Despite being only 24 years, the result was his fourth ever silver medal at the event.
The podium was completed by defending champion Branislau Samoilau who had been unable to secure a new contract after he was let go by the Movistar team at the end of last season.
