Ramon Sinkeldam sprinted to 5th on the second stage of the Ster ZLM Toer. Andre Greipel won the stage to Rosmalen and is also the new leader in the general classification.
The course of the second stage in the Ster ZLM Toer GP Jan van Heeswijk was pan-flat and took the peloton in 180.3km from Den Bosch to Rosmalen. Five early escapees made the day’s break.
Due to a combination of a high pace, the narrow roads and the crosswind, the bunch split up under command of the Belgian team Topsport Vlaanderen – Baloise. As a result, the breakaway was caught with 30km to go and only 40 riders were left in the first group.
The group sprint in the streets of Rosmalen was won by Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal), taking his 7th victory of the season. Sinkeldam sprinted to 5th and Zico Waeytens to 15th. Greipel is also the new leader in the general classification, Sinkeldam is the highest ranked rider for Team Giant-Alpecin in 12th.
After the stage Sinkeldam said: “During the first local circuit the crosswind broke up the bunch and Zico and I were in the first group. Unfortunately, we positioned ourselves at the wrong side of the group in the sprint so I wasn’t able to sprint like I wanted.”
