Egor Silin did a good race and took 9th place in stage 6, the queen stage of the Tour of Austria.Team Katusha’s rider lost 2 minutes and 17 seconds to stage winner Victor De La Parte from Team Vorarlberg.
Second place went to Ben Hermans from BMC, while the daily podium was completed by Jan Hirt from CCC Sprandi Polkowice.
"I think we can be happy with the result. Egor was really strong in the last climb and he did his best today. As a result, he finished in the Top-10 of the stage, moving up to 5th place in general classification. In such a hard race like the Tour of Austria this is a good achievement. The whole team was strong today, the guys supported Egor until the very last climb. Unfortunately, Gatis Smukulis had bad luck today – he crashed in a corner and injured his elbow, so he was forced to abandon the race. So we remain with only 4 riders but we still keep fighting and will try to get some good results in the last two stages," explained team director Gennady Mikhaylov.
Egor Silin finished in the chasing group, 2 minutes and 17 seconds behind the winner. This result allowed Katusha’s rider to move up to place 5th in the overall classification. After 6 stages Silin is 3 minutes and 2 seconds behind De La Parte.
Tomorrow it is the 7th stage of the race – 124,7 km from Kitzbühel to Innsbruck.
