In 2014, Michele Scarponi was both a leader in the Giro d'Italia and a domestique in the Tour de France. In 2015, he will mainly be working in support of his leaders.
Michele Scarponi is ready for a new season. The Italian from astana will be one of the important riders to support his captains in the mountains, the same role he had in 2014 when he helped Vincenzo Nibali win the Tour de France.
In 2015, the big goal for Scarponi is "to go to the Tour in the best possible condition to support Vincenzo Nibali and try to do it again," as he explains in an interview with Spaziociclismo. "To be a part of such a strong team with so importat goals is a strong stimulus."
However, he is not ready to forget his personal ambitions yet.
"There are so many important captains important," he says. "In addition to Vincenzo who is the leader, we have Aru who is already a leader despite his age, Fuglsang and many new signing. Being part of such a team is nice. Of course I hope to have the possibility to do well in races where there is no clear leader."
The former Lampre will be one of the more experienced riders in the team but he is still motivated, claiming that he still "loves to ride a bike" and "trains with pleasure every day".
