The Belgians made it three in a row at the European Cyclocross Championships. Sanne Cant took the gold medal after Eli Iserbyt and Wout van Aert had already taken a European champion's jersey. It was the first medal ever for the Belgian women at the European Championships.
Last week in the sand in Zonhovem Sanne Cant showed great condition by holding off Nikki Harris. And at the European Championships, it was again a battle between two women.
Cant was part of a seven-rider group with another Belgian, Ellen Van Looy. With a strong acceleration, Cant made the group explode.
Four riders were together at the start of the final lap but now Van Looy was no longer there. Eventually, Belgian champion Cant turned on the gas in the finale and had plenty of time to celebrate her win.
Result:
1. Sanne Cant (Bel) in 45'56 "
2. Pavla Havlikova (Cze) - 3 "
3. Nikki Harris (GBR) - 5 "
4. Helen Wyman (GBR) - 12 "
5. Ellen Van Loy (Bel) - 27 "
