Cycling enthusiast are waiting in anticipation for what is expected to be a star-studded edition of the Vuelta a Espana, as more and more riders announce their participation in the season’s final three-week event, starting on August 23. According to the Dutch media, Peter Sagan is yet another high profile rider to line-up in the Spanish grand tour, as he expects to prepare himself for World Championships held in Ponferrada in September
While an impressive string of stars including Christopher Froome (Team Sky), Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo), Dan Martin, Andrew Talansky (Garmin-Sharp), Nairo Quintana (Movistar), Rigoberto Uran (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) or Wilco Kelderman (Belkin) are expected to return to competition following their Giro campaigns or heal Tour de France disappointments, others, like Sagan, are traditionally using the Vuelta a Espana as a perfect build-up towards the World Championships, held this season in the same country.
In his last participation at the Vuelta in 2011 season, the Cannondale leader won three stages and the 24-year old Slovak certainly will be looking to repeat such achievement after he won points classification at the Tour de France but missed out on a stage victory, finishing runner-up no less than four times.
Sagan is also expected to line up at the Clasica San Sebastian, where he will be regarded one of the biggest favorites to take a victory in Spanish one-day event.
