Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) lived up to his status as the big favourite when he defended his title at the Slovakian road race championships. The star rider took a solo victory before his brother Juraj made it a 1-2 for the Sagan family. Patrik Tybor (Dukla Trencin) completed the podium.
In the last four years, we have become accustomed to seeing Peter Sagan in the Slovakian champion's jersey and next year it will be no different. Unsurprisingly, he defended his title in today's 199km race in his home city of Zilina.
As usual, the race was held as a joint event with the Czech Republic and so it soon became apparent that he would take the title when he escaped with Czechs Leopold König and Petr Vakoc in the finale. In the end he dropped both of them to take a solo victory.
His brother Juraj made it a historic day for the Sagan family as he won the sprint for second from a bigger group, with Patrik Tybor completig the podium.
Sagan will first wear the jersey when he lines up for the Tour de France on Saturday.
