In constant progession, Sacha Modolo did a big 2014 season. The Lampre Merida rider is the Italian who won the most races this season. He won a stage on Argentine soil. In February, he won the Trofeo Palma and Trofeo Ses Salines and a stage of the Tour of Algarve. “This win gave me the confirmation to be important and essential for Lampre-Merida”, he told Ciclismo Internacional.
During the VDK-Driedaagse De Panne, he raised his arms twice. ”I beat Kittel, Demare and Kristoff. It gave me the confidence to think big”, he added.
He also competed in the Tour of Switzerland (stage win) and recently in Tour of Beijing (stage win). However, he has never finished in 2nd or 3rd.
At the Tour de France, it was a disaster struck: “It was hard to accept the fact of being sick and going home after the 2nd stage. I had high expectations and expected to be fighting in more than one stage, and it would have changed my career… An opportunity lost.”
Now, he is thinking about the next year. “This year, Lampre-Merida wanted to see what I could do. Now they understand me and especially what I can do and have added a couple of runners to my train … I think that in 2015 we can do much more. “Do better. Be competitive in the races that count and in the classics.”
