Although saved in the eleventh hour when GS Emilia stepped in as organiser of the race, the Trofeo Laigueglia still faces challenges ahead of its 2014 edition: Landslides have damaged the road over the Capo Mele, the final climb of the race.
Reports on Monday suggested the possibility of a route change. The mayor of Maglione, where the Capo Mele is located, told SVSport.it: ”I can't rule out the possibility of a course change if that should become necessary.”
Now the race organisation has announced on Twitter that an alternative route, bypassing the Capo Mele, has become more and more likely. The biggest climb of the race, the Testico, isn't threatened.
The Trofeo Laigueglia will be raced on 21st February.
