One of the purposes of the new Rompoot/Orange team is to develop young Dutch talents. The team now plans to offer a professional contract to the winner of the Dutch Topcompetitie amateur series.
If the Dutch amateur series Topcompetitie will be back on the cycling calendar in 2015, the riders will be riding for a nice prize. The new Roompot cycling team will offer the winner a professional contract.
"If you win the Topcompetitie, you are riding pretty well," said former rider Michael Boogerd who is one of the leaders of the new team. "By offering a contract, we support this project. Furthermore, it fits perfectly into the philosophy of the Roompot/Orange team as we want to help talented riders from our home country in their development."
The Topcompetitie is a ranking based on a series of races which means the the riders are not only riding for the win but also for points in the standings. 2004 was the last time with an overall classification but former rider Flavio Pasquino and entrepreneur Maarten von Winning are in discussions with the Ducth Cycling Federation KNWU and organizers of sixteen major Dutch races abot the return of the Topcompetitie in 2015.
