While team Europcar can no longer count on Thomas Voeckler, injured during the Amstel Gold Race, Pierre Rolland is the number one asset and hopes to improve on his 12th spot last year.
Speaking to Letour.fr, the French rider talked about his state of form. “I feel fine. The Tour of Trentino went as I expected [Rolland finished 10th overall] and now my first major objective of the season has come. It’s a race like no other and one doesn’t come here to prepare for another objective. Of all the great Classics, it’s the one that suits me best. The distance is long and the climbs are steep. We’ll see how it goes with this new course but anyhow it’ll be up to me to take my responsibilities. Now there’s big difference between coming to win, and actually winning”.
