Vicente Reyes was one of the last riders of the IAM Cycling team not to have found a contract for 2017 and now he has decided to stop his career.
As it has been expected for weeks, the 35-year-old rider will not continue in 2017. With a brief message on social networks, he officially announced the news this afternoon
"After all my health problems, I have decided to stop my cycling career! Thank you to all my fans, my friends and my family,” he wrote.
Reynes spent 13 years as a good and loyal domestique and got two wins, a big one on a stage at Paris-Nice in 2005 where he won a sprint ahead of Guido Trenti and Fred Rodriguez. The other victory came at the Challenge of Mallorca 2007. He was close to winning a stage of the Vuelta in 2011 with his second place behind Chris Sutton in Playas de Orihuela and three years later when he was only beaten beaten by John Degenkolb.
It was at the Vuelta that Reynes ended his career last August without knowing it, after having abandoned during the fourth stage.
