According to the eponymous Belgian niewspaper, year Omloop Het Nieuwsblad will be part of the WorldTour in 2017. Reportedly, Strade Bianche will also join the highest league from next year until the end of 2019. Yesterday it was reported that Dwars door Vlaanderen has made the jump too.
If the reports are true, Flemish race organizer Flanders Classics will have four raceat the highest level: the Tour of Flanders, Gent-Wevelgem, Dwars door Vlaanderen and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.
The promotion is the result of the long-awaited reform of the UCI. On Wednesday the Professional Cycling Council reached an agreement with the stakeholders of men's cycling regarding the next steps and reform of the WorldTour. In 2017, all current World Tour races will still be part of the WorldTour calendar and that includes the ASO races likethe Tour de France, Paris-Nice and Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
The UCI has not officially annoucned whcih new races will join the WorldTour.
